yellow ocher (pigment)

A natural yellow earth mineral primarily composed of goethite (iron hydroxide) and clay. Yellow ochers occur naturally throughout the world and have been used as a pigment since prehistoric times. Synthetically produced yellow iron oxide pigment is called "Mars yellow."
