103 - Red Wine Colored Enamel
To 4 lbs of enamel base material [chapter 93], give 2 oz of wellprepared Piedmont manganese. Mix them thoroughly, and then put this material into a furnace in a crucible glazed as usual, but in a very large [crucible] so there remains a Iot of space. This material boils and swells up quite a bit.
When it fuses well and clarifies, throw it into water, return it to the crucible, and leave it to clarify again. Watch to see if the color is to your discretion. Once the signs are right, remove it as usual, and form it into cakes. This very beautiful enamel will be a purplish color, most beautiful for enameling. Add more or less of the color according to your need.
