107 - A Violet Enamel
lf you want to make a violet enamel that is both beautiful and handsome, start with 6 lbs of enamel base material [chapter 93]. Take 3 oz of prepared Piedmont manganese, and 2 pwt of thrice cooked copper made from the hammerings of kettlesmiths [chapter 28]. Mix these two powders together thoroughly, and unify them with the above said material. Put it into a crucible in a furnace as usual. Throw it into water, and reheat. lf signs show the color is right, and it is not necessary to concentrate it or to dilute it, remove it in cakes. This will be beautiful enamel for goldsmiths in its colour.
