Canvasses for all kinds of oil should be prepared or primed with two coats of sizing made of glove clippings, or with gacha, sizing, and a little honey, and then two or three layers of emprimacion made of almagra and umber, or Fuller's earth, ground with cooked linseed oil and a drier. If 'encerados' are to be made, the canvas is stretched well and nailed. Then go over it well so that no knots or rough places remain, and raise the nap. Then apply a layer of cooked linseed oil with a drier. When this dries, take a palette knife and put on the colors, which have been ground with water.
