Cloth for priming without sizing, ought to be of a closer and more even texture; in this respect ticking is peculiarly advantageous; for though at present it is not to be had of much greater width than two yards; yet if the manufacturers found a demand for it, they, no doubt, would make it up to any reasonable dimensions. If the cloth is not sized, it will require three or four couches of colour to ensure an even surface; and before a new couch is applied, time must be allowed, for the former to dry hard enough to be rubbed with pumice; this is the reason why cloth requires, in preparation, two or three months in summer, and five or six in the winter season., ,,
