Take more white lead thin red lead & grind them together wth lynseed oyle, & wth a smooth brush or large pensill lay it on the board yt is ist whited aforesd, and this is yor first primer to prime your worke wth all, for the second primer take white lead, red lead Spanish browne, umber, & if you will put a little lamp black to turne the colour as best pleaseth you, & wth your brush prime yor boards againe, not that the first time you prime your boards your primer be thin wth oyle, and .. the oyle will glutt the boards. that the colours will not sinke when you shall paint on it. Let your primer likewise be made lighter or darker according to the picture you will paint which is the 2d primer, and must be tempred about the thickness of yor colours you paint wth all, you must have great care also you lay it not on too thicke, for if you .... you shall never make yor boards even. But experience will best teach you, if your boards be for some [...ous] picture you must be sure to scrape them after they are whited very even, & prime them with a great [call....] pencill, & imediately after the 2d priming you may even the primer wth the edge of a pidgeons fether pluckt of the wing.
