Also, golden litharge, very strong lye, and make boil what you want inside and it will be black. Also silvery litharge one third, and live lime 2 pounds and make the water boil and it will be a very fine black.

Then take it out and set it on a table of whiteness for three days so that it dries well. Then pestle in a mortar until it is pulverized. Then take Roman vitriol half pound, ferret of Spain, “archenda,” 2 ounces, common salt 3 ounces, black wine as much as you wish and make it boil.
