George Vertue, in reference to Sanderson 1659, notes: ‘an old Copy of this in MS. I have had many years by me, which I had descended by – Russel from Olivers relations’ (Vertue V, 1937-8, 60). Russel is the portrait painter Anthony Russel (1663?-1743) whose family maintained close connections with the Olivers from the early seventeenth century (see Edmond 1983, 190).
In the manuscript a note refers to Vertue: ‘bought of his widow Aug. 22d 1759’ with a book plate of Horace Walpole. With editing and annotations in Vertue’s hand, interpolations from Sanderson 1658.
